The Society has an interesting collection of objects pertaining to Australian explorers that relate to their lives, successes and sometimes deaths. They are often personal items and often one-offs. But now that they are in the collection, what next? How do we care for them and how do we maximize the value of these precious items?
During this talk, Barbara Levings will discuss the the challenges of of managing the collection and illustrate these with examples, enhanced by the very human stories of their owners, how they came to the Society and how they relate to the wider Australian context.
This session will cover relics management issues such as provenance, cataloguing, conservation, loans and promotion.
