Lunchtime Meeting

The Paradox of Beautiful Landscapes

Andrew Lothian

What is it about certain landscapes that appeal to us?  Is there something inherent in the landscape that appeals or is it something in us which responds to the landscape?

Andrew will describe the paradox of viewing beautiful landscapes, cover the characteristics of landscape quality, and then describe the results from surveys he has conducted of landscapes in South Australia and the Lake District in England. He will then describe several studies of the visual impact of wind farms he has undertaken. Finally he will show photos of the best landscapes in the World, based on a further survey.
