Members receive the bi-monthly in-house newsletter “GeoNews” and are entitled to discounts on many of the Society’s other publications and excursions. Members can attend monthly lectures with nibbles and drinks provided, join committees and volunteer with the library and administrative tasks. Councils and Committees of the Society

The Society is governed by a Council elected according to its Rules. It is the effective management group of the Society with specific activities and collections managed by Committees made up of members who are interested in those particular aspects of the Society. The committees look after the following areas:

  • Library
  • Program
  • Research, Publications and Awards
  • Strategic Implementation
  • Engagement and Communication
  • Administration (formerly Executive)

Positions on the Council and Committees are open to any member and a Council Nomination Form is attached or can be submitted online.

The RGSSA occasionally has merchandise for sale, contact the office for details.

At it’s December 2021 meeting, RGSSA Council agreed on the following Vaccination Guidelines in light of the current pandemic and in recognition of its duty of care towards all members to provide a safe environment;

  • It is not the policy of the RGSSA to exclude unvaccinated members from membership.
  • It is recognised that if an outbreak of infectious disease occurs, unvaccinated members may be excluded from contact with others by Public Health Officials for the duration of the outbreak.
  • RGSSA will always follow any Public Health Orders and adapt its program in accordance with that advice.
  • Should an outbreak occur during an excursion or major event this may result in the return home of unvaccinated members at the possible additional cost to the member.
