An exhibition of beautiful books and pictures from our library showcasing plants, flowers, seeds, nuts, leaves and petals.
People have always depended on plants for sustenance and fibres and been fascinated with their variety and beauty. Since earliest times explorers brought back exotic plants from around the world where they were established in botanical gardens for economic reasons and for enjoyment. Developments in horticulture and agriculture have enabled the world’s burgeoning population to feed itself to a degree once thought impossible. Using extensive transport connections fruit, vegetables and flowers are now taken around the world in huge quantities each day providing consumers with an amazing range of choice.
