Postgraduate Symposium

RGSSA

The Symposium will allow South Australian Early Career Scholars in geography and cognate disciplines to present their research and discuss issues related to PhD candidature.

Program Outline

The main part of the program will feature presentations by current PhD students. Topics include:

  • The circular economy and household waste management in Indonesia;
  • Using Indigenous knowledge to enhance food security in Papua New Guinea;
  • Structuration theory and sustainable dietary shifts;
  • Decarbonizing the Australian mining industry with clean energy technologies;
  • Reimagining collective climate action and emergency governance;
  • Measuring Sustainable Development Goals in tourism villages in Indonesia;
  • Sustainable and human development challenges for Timor-Leste's future;
  • The paradox of high human development with persistently high poverty and inequality in Mongolia.

There will also be two panel sessions;

  • ‘Life after the PhD’, and
  • ‘Overcoming problems during the PhD journey.’

And a session on

  • ‘Publishing in academic journals – tips and strategies.’
