Come and see historical relics from the Royal Geographical Society of S.A. (RGSSA) They are a part of the early decisions that shaped the development of Australia, some triumphant and some tragic. We’ve got stories about the relics from Colonial explorers and early pioneers who used camels and horses on their journeys into the lands previously unknown to Europeans. The centrepiece of our display is the recently conserved chair made by John McDouall Stuart along with his original diaries from his fifth expedition of 1860-1861. Stuart led the first group of Europeans that successfully traversed Australia from South to North and returned without the loss of any lives. (The Overland Telegraph that connected Australia to the rest of the world followed his path.)
