Fellowship is the highest honour the ISC can confer on an individual, recognising those who champion science as a global public good and support the ISC’s mission to be the global voice for science. To date, only a very small cohort of geographers globally have been afforded the recognition of an ISC Fellowship. The only other Australian or New Zealander to be admitted to an ISC Fellowship is Professor Emerita Ruth Fincher AM from Melbourne. This makes Iain’s achievement even more noteworthy.

The ISC is an international non-profit organisation with a unique global membership that brings together about 250 scientific organisations around the world, including international scientific unions and associations, national science academies and research councils, international and regional federations and societies, and academies and associations of young scientists.
